Wacker Drive Executive Suites, LLC v. Jones Lang LaSalle Americas (Illinois) LP
Plaintiff Wacker Drive Executive Suites, LLC (“WDES”) filed this RICO class action complaint against Jones Lang LaSalle Americas (Illinois) LP (“JLL” or “Jones Lang”) challenging its policy of forcing tenants to hire only union contractors at its building in the Chicago Loop. WDES alleges that this policy is a conspiracy between JLL and three Chicago unions and is an illegal “hot cargo” agreement, violating the Hobbs Act and Taft Hartley Act, acts of racketeering pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 1961(1).
The Complaint alleges that WDES and other JLL Tenants in the Chicago Loop were forced to pay higher prices for unionized labor over the past four years. The suit is brought under 18 U.S.C. 1962(c), 1962(d) and 1964(c).
The case was filed on August 13, 2018 in the Northern District of Illinois. On May 29, 2019, the Court denied JLL’s Motion to Dismiss and the case will now proceed to discovery.
